Passion is the art of suffering for what you love; instead of settling for what you don't.- Tim Fargo

Many dreams have died in the hearts that have been filled with fears and doubts. As we grow older, having job security and stability becomes more of a priority. Because of lifes financial demands, we often succumb to the norm and security that we are used to. There are many of us who have discovered our talents along our journey of growth and realised our passions.

There was once a great business idea thought of that was abandoned because of fear. We often are shaken by the uncertainty of the economy and we idolise our daytime jobs because it is a familiar comfort. The dedication and time we invest in our jobs barely give us time to nurture our deepest passions and gifts. Perhaps some of us know what it is that we want to do to develop growth and pursue our goals. However, we are accustomed to delaying our goals and putting them on the backburner.

There has never been a better time to go after what you have been purposefully dreaming to achieve or become. It is never too late or too early to make that decision to make your dream a priority. Business should not be seen as a foreign pursuit that only works for some. Business is a practice that works for those who want it to work and those who dont stop believing in their vision.

The success story of business owners will inspire you to believe in your dream enough to see it through. Whether it is working more than one job, being involved in programmes and activities, we were created to do more than just have a 9-5 job for the rest of our lives.

Being a business owner is not an easy task but it takes a lot of believing, failing and trying again to get it right. We ought not to get into business having a fantasy outlook that business means no work and more money. We must be willing to do the work and the sacrifices that it needs to grow. Passion alone cannot sustain a business.

Here are some steps on how you can define your business goals and make your business dream a reality.

Discover your passion

Nothing great in the world has been accomplished without passion. -George Wilhelm

So you ask yourself, what is your passion? Your passion is your gifts, your talent, what you love doing. Many times people say your passion is that thing that you would wake-up in the middle of the night and do happily. Sometimes we discover our passions at a young age and have great dreams and aspirations to pursue these passions.

Unfortunately, sometimes those passions encounter discouragement and being swept under the rug to be forgotten. This can be caused by influences around us and our frame of reference that can cause fear.

Others discover their passion along their journey as they are exposed to their talents and grow fond of certain interests. In some instances, we are led to our passions through the people that are able to bring out that talent from within us. When people realise you are good at something, you become their go-to person for that. This is how your passion, your value, and input in the world can be turned into a service, a business that could bring you revenue. People are always willing to pay for talent. There are many ways that we can discover what our passion is.

Define your business

Often times we have a great business idea and it expands into other ideas and eagerness to pursue this all at once can result in getting lost in a web of great ideas. This is why defining your businesses vision and goals will make what you do successful. When you determine your specialty and what you would like the core of your business to be, it makes it easier to focus on how you will build this.

This is the stage where you write down your business plan and vision. Without focus, you are not able to achieve success as you will be spending time and value on too many things that will not work out. This will help you keep track of growth and realise when its time for your vision to expand and advance.

Nurture your business and make good decisions

Having a business is not purely driven by passion, but it is driven by resilience and dedication to investing in the vision. Nurturing your business will sometimes require you to make hard sacrifices and tough decisions. This is all part of the commitment of seeing the sustainable business growth to take you further.

You nurture your business through your time, love and attention. Having a great support system makes it easier to be able to accomplish this. Borrowing skills from the right people will also enhance the growth and elevation of your business. It is up to you to make wise decisions concerning your business and to be protective of the vision and legacy it can create.

Ensure that your business plan and strategy is in place

Money won't create success, the freedom to make it will. Nelson Mandela

There is nothing worse than having great business ideas and passion but not having a business idea that will materialise. It is important to consider how you are going to realistically go after each goal and build towards growth. This is an important stage of business that can determine your success.

Without a long-term plan or action points, it will be difficult to make sure your business goes beyond paper. Registering a business is exciting but all this can be in vain and the dream can crumble due to not having a strategy for your business. Having a strategy for your business is like safety-proofing your business and giving it the direction it needs to go ahead.

The beautiful thing is that you can hire expert advice from strategists who can analyse your business. They can assist you to create a winning business strategy to apply to your business. A strategist can help define the strategies your business needs to survive in tough times and the strategies it needs to bring success.

Dont compare yourself to others or become impatient

The worst thing you can do as a business owner is to become impatient and bothered by how others are succeeding. Yes, listening to success stories and getting entrepreneurial advice can enlighten you and inspire growth.

However, it is vital to be focused on your own journey and doing whats best for your business. The route that others have taken to reach success, may not necessarily be applicable or helpful for your business. In the process of building your business, it is important not to become frustrated with the progress your business is making as opposed to how another business is doing.

You can realistically adjust the areas that need to be improved and accelerate your own growth at your own pace.

Attracting investors

When your business is well established and has a good foundation, you can be sure to see progress and attract success. When you take your craft seriously you can attract the right people who are interested in what you are doing and what you have to offer. There are methods that you can use to attract funding to your business idea.

Investors are always eager to invest in a business that has long-term success and generate streams of wealth. Investors are quite careful and critical before they put their money towards a cause. A good business investment only comes when you are ready. Sometimes all you need to go to the next level is resources, funding and support.

When you attract an investor who believes in your vision, this can be an exciting opportunity for growth.

Getting an education at a business school

The world needs your gift, your solution and your business. What you can do uniquely can positively impact the lives of others and bring you enormous success. All it takes is for you to take that brave step of going after the vision that you have for your business. When you study a business course at a business school, this will equip you with knowledge and skills that are essential for business owners. For a business to become a success it requires you to be business-minded and know the prospects in this sector.
