There are people who feel like they were born for a greater purpose in life. These are individuals who are always in pursuit of their passion.

Robin Thompson a Tutor Coordinator for INTEC Colleges Creative School is living his life to the fullest. He is using his Bachelor of Arts degree as well as his talents as a musician to impact and serve people. In his own words, both his professional and musical careers are what he loves and he feels fulfilled doing it.

I aim to impact people by showing them that management of time, goals and activities of interest are great methods for social and personal investment, said Robin.

Robin has performed on various stages since 2015, namely the Cape Town Jazzathon, Jazz on the Rocks, Jazz on the Vlei, the Every Nation Go Conference at the Grand West Arena, which people from around the world attended, and he has been featured as a bassist for the women trio Woman2Woman on the Expresso Morning Show on SABC 3.

Robin recently joined the Musicians Association of South Africa (MASA) Western Cape Interim Council, which focuses on South African musician awareness, intellectual property rights, business and economic wellness. He has also submitted his first paper for publication in the Educor Multi-Disciplinary Journal of Research, titled: Methodologies of studying Power: An anthropological perspective on agency, resistance and ethics in South Africa.

Robin said what he loves most about working for INTEC is the diversity of people. He added that he has learnt a lot from his colleagues and is fortunate to be part of a team with individuals who have an incredible work ethic. He said being at INTEC has been a good basis for learning, a good environment for management, as well as policy development.

Juggling different fields has taught Robin to be cautious of how he manages his time, as well as himself.  The importance of managing different aspects of life like time, goals and interests is very crucial as it puts a clear distinction between professional and leisure adventures. These are great methods of social and personal investment.

I am an academic, musician, part-time researcher and tutor. I enjoy reading and collecting academic journal articles from disciplines in Commerce, Technology, Humanities and Ethnomusicology. I also enjoy attending and supporting local music events across Cape Town, and I give part-time bass guitar lessons in my community, said Robin

His additional qualifications are, BA honours degree in anthropology and a Master of Arts degree in Anthropology. He is constantly pursuing excellence and ways to improve his skills. Robin plans to complete his PhD in Anthropology in the future.

INTEC strives to serve its students with excellence through talented and skilled staff like Robin, and will continue to be the leading private distance education provider in South Africa.
