Academic Grade 12 (Senior Certificate)
A High School qualification is the first step to a brighter and better future. Distance learning (studying at home) is a very effective way of achieving your High School qualifications. You can start your studies at any time of the year.
You have until May/June 2011 to obtain your Senior Certificate, but your contract with INTEC College is valid for two years. The last examination towards completing your Grade 12 Senior Certificate will be in May/June 2011. However, to be able to complete your Senior Certificate, you need to ensure that you are registered by no later than 30 September. ONLY STUDENTS REGISTERED WITH THE DOE, (IN OTHER WORDS YOU NEED TO BE REGISTERED AND HAVE A VALID EXAMINATION NUMBER), WILL BE ALLOWED TO ENROL AND COMPLETE. A student consultant will provide you with assistance or any additional information that you may require. Please note that conditions do apply.
Entrance Requirements
Only students who are registered with the DoE, in other words, students who have registered and sat for a previous (SC) Grade 12 exam, will be allowed to enroll. Course Duration
You have until May/June 2011 to obtain your Senior Certificate, but your contract with INTEC College may range from 12-24 months. The last examination for the Grade 12 Senior Certificate will be in May/June 2011.
To Pass with an Endorsement
- The 6 subjects for the Senior Certificate must be written in no more that 2 consecutive examination sittings.
- You must pass 3 subjects with 40% at the first sitting. You have to pass the remaining 3 subjects at a second sitting.
- You must pass 2 subjects from 2 groups on the Higher Grade in one examination sitting.
- At least 4 of the 6 subjects must be selected on the Higher Grade. (Afrikaans Tweede Taal HG and English Second Language HG are regarded as Higher Grade subjects.)
- You must pass an official First Language on Higher Grade, and an official Second Language on Higher Grade, or 2 First Languages on Higher Grade. You must pass the remaining 4 subjects from groups, B, C, D, E and F. You must pass 3 of the 4 Higher Grade subjects from 3 different groups.
- In total, you must pass at least 5 of the 6 subjects with a minimum of 40%. You must obtain a minimum of 20% in the 6th subject.
- You must obtain an aggregate of at least 950 marks.
- You must obtain a minimum of 33,3% (100/300) for each Standard Grade subject. You must obtain a minimum of 40% (160/400) for each Higher Grade subject.
Subject Choice
Choose 6 subjects as follows:
- Choose 2 official languages from Group A.
- Choose 1 subject each from 3 of the following groups: B, C, D, E and F.
- You may select the 6th subject from any group.
To Pass without an Endorsement
- You need to register and write examinations for a total of 6 subjects.
- You must choose 2 subjects from Group A and 4 subjects from Groups B, C, D, E and F.
- You must past at least five subjects.
- You must obtain at least 720 marks in the aggregate of six subjects.
Subject Choice
Choose 6 subjects as follows:
- Choose 2 official languages from Group A (on at least Standard Grade).
- Choose the rest of your subjects from Groups B, C, D, E and F.
Assessment
Although it is not compulsory, we recommend that you submit your assignments for each subject to INTEC, so that our tutors can give you feedback on your progress.
Examinations and Awards
- You will be examined on prescribed literature for all languages that you select. Prescribed textbooks and additional study aids for prescribed literature are NOT included in the course. You will have to source and purchase prescribed literature textbooks and additional study aids from external suppliers and publishers.
- The examinations for the Senior Certificate, is administered by the Department of Education. Upon successful completion of the external Senior Certificate examinations you will be issued with a Senior Certificate by UMALUSI.
