Now you could achieve that special brand of inner confidence and help others to do the same. Because INTEC’s Beauty Care and Health course has been structured to meet your needs – whether your aim is to perfect your personal grooming and health care – or your ambition is to work in a beauty salon.
Grade 10 (Std. 8) or equivalent, or relevant work experience.
You should be able to complete this course within 18 months.
Module 1: Beauty & Personality
- Personal Development:
Find out how personal hygiene and good skin care are the first steps to improving your self-image. And how exercise, nutrition and developing good posture can help you cope with stress. Pamper your hands and feet, plan your wardrobe and pick a fragrance to suit your personality – and face the world with confidence!
- Improve Your Communication Skills
Develop the skills you need to relate well to others. Your listening and speaking skills are important factors for professional and social success. Use body language like eye contact and gestures to put your point across effectively. The telephone is also a powerful communication tool – the right exercises help you to speak concisely and carefully.
- Skin Care
Understand the structure and function of the skin. Focus on the correct care for individual skin types. Develop basic cleansing routines and choose the right skin care products and cosmetics. Find out what the best treatment is for common skin problems, from acne to pigmentation.
Expert advice from a professional make-up artist will help you master techniques to help you look your best. From the importance of applying foundation and concealer correctly – to using blusher to contour and highlight.
- Lash and Brow Treatments
This involves tinting the eyelashes and eyebrows, as well as how to shape the eyebrows and enhance the overall appearance of a person’s face.
Module 2: Hair & Body
- Hair Care and Styling
Learn how to care for your hair. Handle typical "problem hair" and select a hairstyle to suit every occasion. Information on blow-drying, styling, using curling tongs, setting hair on rollers, combing and styling. Plus tips for fashion models and the film industry.
- Healthy Hair
Specialist care for Black hair. Daily grooming to maintain natural body and keep hair manageable and easy to style.
- Body Care
Care for your body skin with an expert combination of exfoliating and moisturising. Combat cellulite and unwanted hair growth. And develop a simple exercise regime to improve your flexibility and muscle tone.
- Your Health
How to choose the best foods and look after your health at work. Lose weight by adjusting your diet. What to expect when you visit your doctor. Getting enough sleep and keeping fit during pregnancy.
- Cosmetic Surgery
Choosing the right surgeon. We discuss common procedures from eye, nose and lip operations to chemical skin peels, hair transplants and cosmetic dentistry.
Module 3: Nutrition & Fitness
- Nutrition and Health 1
Understanding the basics of good nutrition will help you make sound decisions about controlling your weight, preventing disease, maintaining fitness and general wellbeing.
- Nutrition and Health 2
Learn how to read food labels and eat healthily even when you’re eating out. Understand why you need vitamins and minerals in your diet and which foods to choose to stay healthy.
- Designing a Fitness Programme includes:
Healthy fitness goals; Stretching techniques for improved flexibility; Benefits of cardiovascular exercise; Toning and strengthening muscles; Appropriate cool down.
- How to start a Personal Wellness Programme includes:
Fitness Assessment: endurance, strength conditioning, nutrition and weight control. Choice of Sports Activity: Finding your training heart rate; Walking and jogging programmes.
All the required assignments must be completed and sent to the College for marking. All assignments must be successfully passed in order to obtain the award.
On successful completion you will receive your INTEC Personal Beauty Care and Health Certificate.
